I'm so excited to announce a big time promotion at WBIR-TV. We started recruiting Sarah Oppmann from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) about two years ago. We saw incredible talent and standout potential from a powerhouse journalism school (MTSU School of Journalism and Strategic Media). Over the last year - she's refined her skills as a photographer and journalist. Effective yesterday - she has moved out of her visual storyteller role into a multskilled journalist position. She's the newest on air journalist for our nightside team. By the way - she joins a different MTSU alumni (Katie Inman) on that shift. Reminder - nobody loves MTSU grads more than WBIR :) We're #TrueBlue here in Knoxville.

What a busy day. We had 6(!!!!!) new people start today at WBIR-TV. They’re learning a lot and they’re all so excited to tell stories that matter. Welcome to the team, Paul C. I’m so excited to announce we have a new PIR starting this summer. Ainslee Raasch is the 's first Producer in Residence. We’re so lucky to have her and can’t wait for her to join the team. TEGNA created the PIR program around seven years ago to help develop our next great producers and start a pipeline of talent to address the producer shortage in the industry.The first years of the program have developed standout producers now in regular producer roles creating exciting content across the company. She will be with us for at least the next one-to-two years training and producing content. Ainslee will help us innovate and respectfully challenge traditional ways while learning fundamental journalism skills from the stars in our newsroom. Once trained, PIRs will be promoted into regular producer roles in either our newsroom or another TEGNA station as a digital/show producer. I'd like to thank Noah Cooper and Stephen Adams for helping us recruit and keep her in Knoxville.

Big news today! Mike Simon, Esq. is joining our weather team as a full-time meteorologist. He's done a wonderful job over the last few months part-time. We're so glad to be adding him to our team at WBIR-TV
